Hey guys,

Inktober has officially started and I am so excited not just for Inktober but also for the month itself because it's my favourite month with my birthday and all ^-^

If you'd like to take part in Inktober, you can follow the official prompt list, but there are a ton of alternative prompt lists online. It can be stressful sometimes but also it's a lot of fun!! <3

INKTOBER supplies

    1.       Sketchbook – This year I’m not using a sketchbook but Bristol paper which I find works really well with ink and markers which are going to be my main media. It’s 180g paper which might be a bit heavy but still, works really well. Ink and markers glide on it like butter hahah. It would be nice to have A5 size sketchbook of Bristol paper but I only have A4 single pages. Which is a bit irritating but I can make it work. :D I might use a page for 2 different drawings as I don’t really plan to work in a huge size.

    2.       For sketching – I have my cute pink egg sharpener. It has an inner cartridge that is useful; also it’s still pretty sharp. I use a simple pen-form eraser by Penac. This is my second one and it became my favorite eraser in the past 2 years so I will buy some more. For pencils I use Koh-I-Noor brand 4 B. A mechanical pencil for sharper sketch details. That’s a 0.35 rotring. I also use a red erasable one sometimes (Faber Castell) It’s a bit like the ColErase ones but doesn’t erase that well lol.

    3.       For the lineart (most important part)- I have an Uchida 0.05 for fine lines and details, I sometimes line the entire drawing using this liner. I will also use the Edding liners, mostly in size 0.1 and 0.5 for added lineweight. I have an Uni 0.5 black ball point pen which I enjoy using sometimes. It’s amazing for details but also for full drawings occasionally. If I want to be honest I enjoy using ball point pens for lineart the most. I have the most control over it and I can easily correct my lines as I go if something did not become sharp enough. Unfortunately it smudges a bit which is uncomfortable and it doesn’t take markers that well either. I might have to let it sit a few hours though. I have never tried doing that. I usually power through drawings, not waiting for stuff to dry. I should experiment with it a bit more. I have some fatter Edding markers too, to fill in black spaces. I don’t recommend struggling with small size markers for that. I don’t plan using a brushpen this year. I haven’t mastered using them yet so they would only frustrate me and for Inktober I really want to be comfortable with my tools. Time will be enough pressure.

    4.       Accent colors and details- As I know myself I am aware that after a few days simple black/white drawings would drive me nuts so I decided to use some color. Although I plan to keep my color palette very limited. My main accent will be gold, so I will use a gold Sharpie and the gold Edding paint marker. The rest are some pastel Copics: R00 Pinkish White, RV10 Pale Pink, BV31 Pale Lavender and E04 Lipstick Naturale. Before I forget, of course my Uni-ball white gel pen will also come in handy.

So that’s my supply package for Inktober. It feels like building a capsule wardrobe haha. I feel very limited with these tools but also I won’t have to think too much about what to use because it’s already a given. Let the challenge begin! :tardgrinn:

Guys, you know many years ago I had my favorite colored pencils. Back then I didn't try too many types, I just bought whatever was available and I didn't really understand the differences in quality and type etc. I just know they were my favs because I bought about 4 packs of them, one after the other, without consciously realizing what it was I liked about them so much. Btw they were the Crayola Blendables (not any Crayolas, this was a special edition) in case you're interested, not that you can find them on the market anymore.. ( ╥ω╥ )

Then for some years I didn't use them because I really got into digital coloring. So I forgot about my pencils for a while and what was left of them was buried in a box under my bed.

One day (like 6 years later) I suddenly couldn't use my tablet anymore because it just died on me and at that time it was impossible for me to buy a new one so for I while I decided to go back to my traditional pieces. I was excited about coloring with Copics and pencils again because usually this combination was what I preferred. But I was out of some important colors (like pink or orange!! very important ( ̄□ ̄」)) so I went out to buy them again and then I saw they are not sold anymore. They disappeared from the face of the earth completely, so much so that it is nearly impossible to find anything about them online, like they never even existed. But they did, I have proof in my box in the form of some pencil ends and some unused colors that are almost complete. It sucks when something you used to love suddenly gets discontinued.

So I was clueless for a while but I thought, no trouble, there are thousands of different types of pencils out there, I will find even better ones. I wasted some money on some basic pencil sets which were not bad, I just didn't like their finish or color selection. I might have been too picky but the thing was, I was trying to find something that maybe resembled my Crayolas a bit. I even got a nice set of Polychromos for Christmas and I tried to love them but... I don't really. I mean they are pretty good but I can't forget my Crayolas, they were the love of my life haha (*¯ ³¯*)♡ Recently I discovered that I just preferred pencils that have harder leads as opposed to being smooth and soft finish. I didn't even know about these differences... I didn't know leads can be soft or hard...

Everybody has different preferences. I know some people who are all over Polychromos or Prismacolors and they are experts at using them, they really do a wonderful job. I just can't imitate that. It's not for me.

So now, I am trying to look for a pencil set with a nice color selection that has a harder lead instead of soft. If you guys have any recommendation please tell me. If I find a set I love again, I will buy like 10 boxes or more to have them for the rest of my life (´♡‿♡`) Can you see I'm a loyal person xD

Anyway, I'm back to color, I want to be productive today cause I have a few things that I should finish. Byebye~

Hi my dear artists and art appreciators,

I have problems with drawing fanart. I mean I have been drawing fanart of anime and manga characters for a while now and although it was far from perfect, these characters usually have distinct clothing and/or hairstyles that makes them recognizable even if drawn in a completely different style. However, what I am more interested in nowadays is drawing fanart of real people and well, I have a lot of difficulties. In short, they don't seem to resemble at all? I am trying really hard to capture at least some of the main features but it could be literally anyone. Once I draw the same person with a different hairstyle or clothes, he/she is not really recognizable anymore. I am sure I am not the only one having these problems? Can anyone give any recommendations on how to become a better fanartist? I can't draw in a realistic style and while I appreciate realistic art, I am personally interested in comic and manga styles. There are so many artist who can draw fanart in a way that the art resembles the actual person, I just have no idea how they do it. I am trying to improve.

If anyone is interested, I am open to discussion.
