Inktober has officially started and I am so excited not just for Inktober but also for the month itself because it's my favourite month with my birthday and all ^-^
If you'd like to take part in Inktober, you can follow the official prompt list, but there are a ton of alternative prompt lists online. It can be stressful sometimes but also it's a lot of fun!! <3
INKTOBER supplies
1. Sketchbook – This year I’m not using a sketchbook but Bristol paper which I find works really well with ink and markers which are going to be my main media. It’s 180g paper which might be a bit heavy but still, works really well. Ink and markers glide on it like butter hahah. It would be nice to have A5 size sketchbook of Bristol paper but I only have A4 single pages. Which is a bit irritating but I can make it work. I might use a page for 2 different drawings as I don’t really plan to work in a huge size.
2. For sketching – I have my cute pink egg sharpener. It has an inner cartridge that is useful; also it’s still pretty sharp. I use a simple pen-form eraser by Penac. This is my second one and it became my favorite eraser in the past 2 years so I will buy some more. For pencils I use Koh-I-Noor brand 4 B. A mechanical pencil for sharper sketch details. That’s a 0.35 rotring. I also use a red erasable one sometimes (Faber Castell) It’s a bit like the ColErase ones but doesn’t erase that well lol.
3. For the lineart (most important part)- I have an Uchida 0.05 for fine lines and details, I sometimes line the entire drawing using this liner. I will also use the Edding liners, mostly in size 0.1 and 0.5 for added lineweight. I have an Uni 0.5 black ball point pen which I enjoy using sometimes. It’s amazing for details but also for full drawings occasionally. If I want to be honest I enjoy using ball point pens for lineart the most. I have the most control over it and I can easily correct my lines as I go if something did not become sharp enough. Unfortunately it smudges a bit which is uncomfortable and it doesn’t take markers that well either. I might have to let it sit a few hours though. I have never tried doing that. I usually power through drawings, not waiting for stuff to dry. I should experiment with it a bit more. I have some fatter Edding markers too, to fill in black spaces. I don’t recommend struggling with small size markers for that. I don’t plan using a brushpen this year. I haven’t mastered using them yet so they would only frustrate me and for Inktober I really want to be comfortable with my tools. Time will be enough pressure.
4. Accent colors and details- As I know myself I am aware that after a few days simple black/white drawings would drive me nuts so I decided to use some color. Although I plan to keep my color palette very limited. My main accent will be gold, so I will use a gold Sharpie and the gold Edding paint marker. The rest are some pastel Copics: R00 Pinkish White, RV10 Pale Pink, BV31 Pale Lavender and E04 Lipstick Naturale. Before I forget, of course my Uni-ball white gel pen will also come in handy.
So that’s my supply package for Inktober. It feels like building a capsule wardrobe haha. I feel very limited with these tools but also I won’t have to think too much about what to use because it’s already a given. Let the challenge begin!
